History and Legend - Palace On Wheels :
Palace on wheels is one of the best luxury trains in India. The train has chequered history as it was once operated as the personal Railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Rajasthan, Gujarat as well as of the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India. This train ceased to travel after 1947. The Palace on Wheels trains made its 1st journey on 26th Jan, 1982. From October, 1982, the train has been running successfully. The train is equipped with 14 saloons, 2 restaurants, kitchen car, Bar cum lounge and 4 service cars. The train has been provided with exquisite facilities which are comparable with the best luxury trains in the world. The train won the PATA award in 1987. It undergoes periodic renovation from time to time.
The train has been equipped with all the usual modern amenities rivaling those of any five star hotels. Palace on Wheels takes you on a journey which is exotic, enriching and thrilling. To emphasize the association of the train with history, the various coaches are named after various former Rajput states.
